The Basement

The Basement, at 915 W. Fillmore, next to Tilt Gallery, is a live/work space where the front rooms are used as a gallery/rehearsal space to create multi-media live performance work. It is the home base for TIMB, a non-profit based in Phoenix since 2001.

TIMB MISSION STATEMENT
Theater In My Basement develops and produces trans-cultural, experimental works of performance in English and Spanish. We collaborate with artists from around the world, crossing cultural and artistic boundaries to redefine the possibilities for live performance.

Theater In My Basement/SW Annex specializes in producing new, avant garde, post-modern, multi-cultural work, and like to work in small, intimate spaces. We are interested in breaking down existing structures and barriers that try to prevent the cultures in Phoenix from speaking to each other with respect, and recognition of our similarities and differences in equal measure.

We are developing a performance form that is akin to the Drunken Fist school of martial arts, which draws on all systems, but allies itself with none, making for an eclectic, post-structural, and multi-valent experience. We invite various voices to confront each other theatrically, and to explore the spaces of this confrontation, and ultimately define the changing identity of “American”.

Theater In My Basement/Anexo SW se especializa en producir trabajos nuevos, avant garde, post-modernos, multiculturales, y esta dedicado a trabajar en espacios íntimos y pequeños. Estamos interesados en romper estructuras y barreras existentes las cuales tratan de prevenir que las culturas en Phoenix se hablen unas a otras con respeto y reconociendo las similitudes y diferencias con un debido equilibrio. Nosotros estamos desarrollando una forma del arte del performance que es muy similar a la de la escuela de artes marciales: Puños Borrachos, la cual ilustra en todos los sistemas pero que a la misma ves no se asocia con ninguno, creando así una experiencia ecléctica, post-estructural y multivalente. Nosotros invitamos a varias voces para que se confronten unas con otras de una manera teatral, además de explorar los espacios de esta confrontación para así últimamente poder definir la identidad transformada de “American”.

Theater In My Basement es hecho a mano, hágalo Ud. Mismo, rasquachi, verdadera y de la tierra, subterránea y en tu vecindario. La compañía esta dedicada a la creación de una nueva producción del trabajo del performance, la cual se enfoca en una estética global y local. TIMB esta enfocado a mantener el estándar de excelencia mientras empuja puertas, sobres, y bordes para una audiencia intercultural desde una perspectiva intercultural. TIMB esta dedicado en borrar las barreras entre el ritual y el performance, lo sagrado y los postmoderno, para después entretejerlas en un cruce de tiempo y espacio en donde la audiencia es el centro donde todo es recordado repentinamente. TIMB es extremadamente intimo y comunal. Estamos resistiéndonos a mirarnos nuestros ombligos de una manera fija e insistente. TIMB es una conspiración para la inspiración de audiencias a que se examinen sus propios ombligos en una atmósfera abierta. TIMB es para todas las audiencias, todas las edades, todas las demografías, las cuales tengan una sensibilidad filosa.
