1504 W Grand Ave
Ugly is the new pretty. “Gimmie Head” was a small book project I did about 10 years ago where I drew a bunch of bodies in a sketchbook and had people draw heads on them. This show is nothing like that, it’s quite the opposite, it’s just a bunch of new paintings of all sorts of crazy heads without bodies. Beautiful, ugly and smelly heads of people you think you might know or wish you knew. There will be rare mini-comics and drawings available from and not from my non-award winning comic: Magical Moments. Also on display will be the dress designs of Ashley Pasquan. Always cute, always classy, a little flirty, a little sassy. Come check out what she has been working on, she’s been as busy as a little chipmunk in a nuthouse.

CraftRave

What:
On Saturday December 4th, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. Phoenix will experience a first, a craft rave. What’s a craft rave? 10 hours of non-stop hands-on making action under one crafting roof! This isn’t another holiday craft sale – but a gathering space where artists will teach mini make-and-go projects and/or techniques to attendees. Instead of shopping for gifts, guests will receive the tools and instruction to make their gifts.

Attendees will enter the doors of Braggs Pie Factory and preview the artists stations to determine which projects they would like to create. For a fee ranging from $5-$15, guests can choose to learn crafts and techniques such as flower tiaras by The Phoenix Fridas, shrinemaking, fashion graffiti, needle felting, screen printing, tee-shirt yarn flowers and others. Guests will then make their way to the payment station to purchase the projects, stopping by the treats station or grabbing a coffee before heading out to get making! There will also be free crafting stations and empty tables where guest can bring their own projects they need to complete before the holiday.

In between making their masterpieces, guests can enjoy coffee, sweets and energy drinks. Instructors will also have their artwork for sale.

We will also have a donation drop off area to collect new art supplies to be donated to women and family shelters.

Who:
This event is hosted by professional crafters, Kathy Cano-Murillo, The Crafty Chica, and Cyndi Coon, of Laboratory 5 and Lovely Lula. Michael’s Craft store will provide goody bags to the first 100 attendees. In addition, Provo Craft and iLoveToCreate will provide give-a-ways. Late into the evening there will be a live video-cast through 2Cool Crafts.

When:
Event Hours: Saturday December 4, 2010, 2 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Where:
Braggs Pie Factory
1301 W Grand Avenue Phoenix, AZ, 85007

PRESENT-TENSE Exhibit at Deus Ex Machina

PRESENT-TENSE

Present: 1.adj. being here now. 2. v.t. gift. 3. to put on a show.
Tense: 1. adj. stretched tight. 2. nervous and anxious. 3. warlike state.

The words “present tense” together are a literary term meaning the events in your narrative plot are occurring now. We narrate our own story choosing how we share our experiences with an audience.

In December Deus Ex Machina features the work of artist and writer Annie Lopez. Says Annie, “We use our viewpoint but reveal or withhold information to control the way our character develops in the eyes of others. We observe and report, selecting our words carefully.

” I know what I create is a reflection of my everyday (and not-so-everyday) adventures. I am present, but I am also tense.”

Also exhibiting are gallery members Michele Bledsoe, Richard Bledsoe, Jeff Falk, and Steve Gompf.

Opening Reception:
Friday, December 3, 2010
6PM to 10PM

Saturday After – December 4
