Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery will begin classes at its new location on Grand Avenue on Thursday, August 25th. Founded in 1975 in Phoenix, Arizona, ‘Roberto-Venn’ is the longest running guitar making school in North America, and has produced more individual guitar makers than anyone in history.
The school offers a 5-month Guitar Making and Repair Course that is designed to teach students the basic fundamentals of guitar making and repair and prepare them for a career in lutherie. During the 5-month course students will build a minimum of one acoustic and one electric guitar. Roberto-Venn is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.

Jeff Falk refers to our gallery as a seasonal room. It takes on the character of whatever the current climatic conditions are. And now, August in Phoenix, we’ve got glorious monsoon madness: hot and steamy, with a chance of volatile.
No matter, We love this environment and we’re proud to be a year round venue. In August we’ve recruited a band of fellow travellers who may be just as committed as we are.

The Trunk Space presents HP LOVECRAFT: Exhumed, Roasted
Saturday August 20th, 2011 at 7:30pm
Admission: $6
1 night only
WHO: Famed Horror author, celebrating 121 horrid years!
WHAT: An exploration of his legacy, and roast of his eccentricities.
WHERE: The Trunk Space, 1506 NW Grand Ave. 602-256-6006 thetrunkspace.com
WHEN: Saturday August 20th–Lovecraft’s 121st birthday! Doors at 7:30pm
WHY: You’re only 121 once! But Forbidden Knowledge will haunt you forever…
Howard Phillips Lovecraft is a writer of infamous, if not notorious Horror Fiction, filled with dark forces and monsters (both human and Godly), as well as intense personal psychological terror.
Noted author of ’serious fiction’ Joyce Carol Oates has said that Lovecraft “exerted an incalculable influence on succeeding generations of writers of horror fiction.”
Despite being accepted as works of fiction, to this day people profess to believe in and follow the rites described in Lovecraft’s body of work, and have constructed religions derived from them. This places him in a unique position of modern genre authors, that perhaps only L. Ron Hubbard could be considered a peer to.
Stephen King called Lovecraft “the twentieth century’s greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale.”
This evening of live entertainment offers a survey of different performers, each given the chance to swim in Lovecraft’s dark waters and shine a light on the ghost he’s left in their mind.
Featured will be:
The Cult of The Yellow Sign: An equal opportunity cult that incorporates HPs ideas for the modern man/inhuman’s spiritual needs.
Arcana Collective: Interdisciplinary Theater group that blends music, dance, story and absurdity into elaborate spectacles!
Archbishop Jason Polland: A well read and self-taught expert on the HP Lovecraft legacy and world. He is a consummate performer, researcher, storyteller and musician
An appearance by “the man himself” Howard Phillips Lovecraft! I don’t know how, but we’ve been told to expect him!
(Other performers, TBA)
Attendees can expect a night of music, poetry, monologue, humor, and much more.
Says The Trunk Space’s co-owner, JRC, “We used to do events like this on an almost monthly basis; giving artists the chance to shred an icon and find meaning in those tatters–it’s time for a return to those values! This show has a bright and talented cast. I’m looking forward to it a lot!”
*Special note, although all Trunk Space events are considered All Ages, do to the nature and content of Lovecraft’s writing, we advise people to take stock of their moral strength and mental sanity before deciding to attend.*
HP LOVECRAFT: Exhumed, Roasted is scheduled for one show only on Saturday August 20th. Doors will open at 7:30pm with the roast set to begin at 8pm.
The cost will be $6 per person.

From Italy to the Inner Basin, lion to landscape, Rick D’Elia will be sharing a combination of his old favorites and more recent impressions of environments, places and objects that inspire him. Rick is a Phoenix area photojournalist and commercial photographer who over his 21 professional years, has photographically documented events, people and places locally and internationally for magazines, newspapers, businesses and relief and development organizations. The work in this show results from moments on the margin of these endeavors as well as direct explorations for the sake of discovering an image. SPECIAL EXHIBIT: The Trophy Room
David Quan & Ashley Pasquan
1504 W Grand Ave
Ugly is the new pretty. “Gimmie Head” was a small book project I did about 10 years ago where I drew a bunch of bodies in a sketchbook and had people draw heads on them. This show is nothing like that, it’s quite the opposite, it’s just a bunch of new paintings of all sorts of crazy heads without bodies. Beautiful, ugly and smelly heads of people you think you might know or wish you knew. There will be rare mini-comics and drawings available from and not from my non-award winning comic: Magical Moments. Also on display will be the dress designs of Ashley Pasquan. Always cute, always classy, a little flirty, a little sassy. Come check out what she has been working on, she’s been as busy as a little chipmunk in a nuthouse.
